Unveiled alongside Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is to launch in the UK on November 17th, the handset’s manufacturer Samsung has confirmed

The first handset to land sporting Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich mobile operating system will touch down next month as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus UK release date is officially confirmed as November 17th.

Officially unveiled last week alongside the latest edition to the Android OS family, the Galaxy Nexus looks set to build on the success of Samsung’s Galaxy brand following on from the likes of the market dominating powerhouse that is the Samsung Galaxy S II.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Specs

Boasting a bevy of high-end specs the Galaxy Nexus will hit UK soil in a matter of weeks featuring a hefty 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD display with a 1280 x 720p resolution alongside a 1.2GHz processor and 1GB of RAM.

On the rear the Galaxy Nexus is set to host a fully optimised 5-megapixel camera with 1080p Full HD video recording capabilities and a second 1.3-megapixel snapper residing on the front. The handset will be made available in 16GB and 32GB storage capacities.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Price

With the Samsung Galaxy Nexus UK release date officially confirmed attention now turns to the handset’s price. Whilst online retailer Amazon has made the Android 4.0 handset available for pre-order with a princely £549 price tag smartphone retailers and UK network providers Vodafone, Three and O2 have all confirmed they will stock the device on subsidised contracts.

It was a massively eventful Thursday night in the tech world, with huge developments in the Apple HDTV story, while HP has decided to continue making PCs afterall. Also there’s big smartphone news from Nokia and Samsung.

Apple’s Siri-powered TV coming in late 2012, early 2013
The New York Times is reporting that Apple has known since 2007 that it would build a TV, but the launch of Siri for iPhone 4S was the final piece of the puzzle. The Siri-powered HD telly could be ready to launch as soon as this time next year, but an early 2013 release it the most likely ETA.

Apple is reportedly set to enter the television market with a line of repeatedly rumoured iTV television sets to be officially launched by the Cupertino based company by the end of 2012.

With Apple TV, the iTunes-connected, content-providing television service repeatedly referred to as Apple’s and Steve Jobs’ ‘pet project’, the iPad and iPod manufacturer is predicted to be in the perfect position to launch a dedicated television set.

Apple iTV Rumours

The latest Apple iTV reports follow the release of the official Steve Jobs biography in which the former head of Apple’s biographer Walter Isaacson reveals Jobs had “cracked the code” on how to build an Apple branded television to the same high standards, performance and design levels as the company’s market leading computers and smartphones.

One of the most reputable Apple analysts Gene Munster of Piper has suggested the Apple TV could land either in late 2012 or early 2013 stating: “Our thesis is based on meetings with contacts close to Asian component suppliers, industry contacts, Apple’s patent portfolio for television technology, and recent product launches.”

He added: “Based on Jan-11 meetings in Asia (not with component suppliers), we believe Apple is investing in manufacturing facilities and securing supply for LCD displays. These displays could range from 3.5″ mobile displays to 50″ television displays.   More recently, in Sept-11 we met with a contact close to an Asian component supplier who indicated that prototypes of an Apple television are in the works.”
